General Climate Conditions and Recommended Clothing
In general, our weather is quite mild and enjoyable. The months of June, July
and the first part of August are typically warm with the average temperatures
in the 50's to 70's. Variety is the word though, with weather changes often
occuring daily and sometimes by the hour. Although these changes are rarely
severe, some are very quickly. A warm 65 degree morning could abruptly feel
quite brisk when a 15 degree mph wind comes in mixed with rain showers. These
changes rarely make things uncomfortable as long as one has the right clothing.
The last part of August and September can become a little colder with
temperatures ranging between 35 to 55 degrees. Be prepared for possible
winds during the later part of September.
If one had to summarize the weather on the Alaskan Peninsula the first word
that comes to mind would be "CHANGE." Since we are located only 15 miles from
Bristol Bay to our west and the Pacific Ocean 60 miles to our east, quick
weather changes can be the norm. The Alaskan weather is a joy to watch and can
be comfortably experienced with just a bit of preplanning before your morning
departure. Because of the rapidly changing weather, fishing in Southwestern
Alaska can place great demands on your clothing and tackle like no other
angling destination. In other words listen to your guide's daily recommendation
and then go experience the Last Frontier.
